Sukothai is a former capital of Thailand and, like Ayuthaya, contains many fantastic ruins of great temples. The temples are all contained in a well kept and peaceful park. Due to its location further north from Bangkok it receives a lot less visitors than Ayuthaya but in many ways is a more impressive site. It is certainly well worth the journey.
