The town of Nakorn Pathom lies west of Bangkok, and a visit can be easily combined with a trip to the River Kwai area. Probably the main attraction is Phra Pathom Chedi, said to be the tallest Buddhist monument in the world. It is approached up a long flight of steps, and it is possible to walk around the perimeter of the temple complex. The night market takes place adjacent to the temple - it has a wide variety of stalls, and a vast amount of food of all types is on offer. Very busy and atmospheric - definitely worth a visit.
The Rose Garden Resort is sited next to the Ta Chine River. The resort offers a large variety of activities within the grounds, including botanical walks and cookery classes. As well as the large hotel and restaurant, there is a Thai Village where cultural shows are staged in the afternoon. By rising at dawn, it is possible to take part in 'merit-making', which consists of making offerings to a monk, who visits by boat every morning.
