Dusit is the area of Bangkok where many government departments are located. Also here is the very attractive Vimanmek Mansion. This is no longer used and is open as a museum. Set in well landscaped grounds, Vimanmek is the largest Teak Wood structure in the world. The building is made solely from the wood and contains many interesting relics. If you have a ticket from the Grand Palace, this entitles you to free entry into Vimanmek Mansion. Dusit Zoo is adjacent to the mansion and the two combined make an excellent alternative day out, away from the nosie and chaos of downtown Bangkok. The zoo is well organised and in a relaxed setting, however some of the animal enclosures are rather cramped and bare.
